Hi,

what's the best way to stop running BackupPC_nightly? Is it safe to kill
those processes?

I think I've killed them without any observed ill effects. (YMMV).
I presume you mean to do this without shutting down other BackupPC processes.

Otherwise, you could just do the usual /etc/init.d/backuppc stop (or
whatever your distro prefers).

I finally killed them without visible side effect.

yes, I had running backups that I did not want to stop
