Post tar: Cannot stat: Permission denied
Hi backup up my homedirectory with the great tool

in the logfile XferLOG.6.z

tar command:=20
Running: /bin/tar -c -v -f - -C /home --totals --newer=3D2004-04-09\ 16:43:=
49 --exclude=3Dtmp --exclude=3D~\* --exclude=3D\*.tmp --exclude=3D\*.wav --=
exclude=3D\*.mp3 --exclude=3D\*.iso --exclude=3D\*.wmv --exclude=3D\*.avi -=
-exclude=3Dfilme --exclude=3Dtemp --exclude=3Ddump --exclude=3D\*.mpg --exc=
lude=3D\*.wmf --exclude=3D\*.ogg --exclude=3D\*.ogm --exclude=3D\*.bin --ex=
clude=3D\*.cue .

/bin/tar: ./jonnyb/sylpheed/joebue: Cannot stat: Permission denied

but the permissions are set to
drwxr--r-- /home/jonnyb/sylpheed/joebue

this error shows up also for some other directories

I am using suse 9.0 (kernel 2.6.4) with backuppc 2.0.2=20
tar --version : 1.13.25

It looks like tar is running as the BackupPC user, so therefore doesn't
have permission to access that directory.

You need to use sudo or ssh to elevate the uid of tar to root,
so it does have permission to access all these directories.

setting up the sudo, solved the problem. thanks! No more errors!

I did not not get the point why backuppc could not access the dir while it =
is
set readable to everyone. =20

anyway it works fine now.

Directories need execute permission (so that chdir() works),
in addition to read permission. Your example didn't have
other execute permission.
