Post Zip Restore
Hello,

I've successfully upgraded to 2.10. I experienced one minor problem with the creation of bin/BackupPC - I ended up copying it from the source tree and editing the "use lib" directive and perl path. I kept getting errors that it couldn't be written during execution of config.pl. I am not sure but am quite happy to be using the new interface. BackupPC is running on Fedore Core 1 in this instance.

When restoring via zip from/to WinXP (BackupPC running on linux Fedora Core 1) I can not use the Zip Restore function. I am gettting a file with appparently appropriate size and content but none of the Windows Zip tools (MS Extract ALL, 7-Zip, etc.) can handle it. Copying the zip file back to the same Fedora Core 1 system that created it, I see these results:

# file restore.zip
restore.zip: Zip archive data, at least v2.0 to extract

# gzip -cd restore.zip
Contents of the text file in the zip are printed to standard out, then followed by these two errors:
gzip: restore.zip: invalid compressed data--crc error
gzip: restore.zip: invalid compressed data--length error

The single text file in the zip archive seems complete. I also had problems with this in my previous attempts with BackupPC 2.0X. It would be nice to figure out - although I haven't seen reports of this issue by others.

Thanks for any suggestions,

Andy

Yes, your's is the only recent report related to unzip problems.

First, please try BackupPC_zipCreate manually from the command line.
There was a bug reported by Dan Niles where some stderr debug
messages ended up in the zip file. That was fixed in 2.1.0.

Second, try turning compression off.

Third, it could be something wrong with your Compress:Zlib installation.
I'm sure you've done this several times, but a re-install might be
warranted. Any chance there are old versions (or libraries) floating
around your system?

Fourth, feel free to send me (not the list) an example zip file that
fails - hopefully one that is small. I don't know much about the
zip file format but I'd be curious to see why the archive is
corrupted.

Craig
