Bacula 5.2.5 and Mac
Author Message
Post Bacula 5.2.5 and Mac
I've successfully built 5.2.3 on OSX 10.6 and 5.2.5 on both OSX 10.6 and
10.7. Backups and restores seem to work fine. I do get this error and
I was hoping someone might have an idea. I was also hoping someone
could maybe share their FileSet definitions with me so I can see how
others are backing up their Macs. And yes, I do have hfsplussupport=yes
in my fileset.

ACLs of /u/bacula/restore4/Users/mtladmin/Sites/ - incompatible acl
stream encountered - 1001

30-Jan 13:33 mtl-backup4-fd JobId 775: 0 non-supported Finder Info
streams ignored.

Thank you,

mike

I have no OSX machine myself so cannot really help you here.

That looks strange it looks like the bacula filed did save the OSX
acl but on restore it doesn't see it as a valid ACL stream which is
strange as 1001 is the OSX acl stream number.

This one is even stranger as it seems to indicate your Bacula filed
things on restore its not a OSX install (there is a small bug
in the error printing that is why you see a 0 being printed instead
of the real error count.)

Was this a backup and restore on the same client with the same
daemon ?

Could you send me the content of src/config.h to see what config
options got enabled. (Offline sending is ok).

I have run another restore.. the issue seems to be my fault. If I
restore directly to the Mac, I do not get these errors. If I restore to
a non-Mac, as I did before, I restored to a Linux machine, I do get the
errors. This makes sense.

I don't have this any longer, but if you really would like to see it I
can build bacula again. I think the issue was that I didn't restore to
a Mac client.

Yes the ACL/XATTR and the Mac specific streams can only be restored with
a MAC filed. For any other platform the specific data makes no sense.
So yes that explains what you were seeing. It did trigger me to fix
one minor problem where it printed the wrong error message but
that should be fixed soon. So it was not completely pointless in
looking at things.

Some streams e.g. backup data only makes sense on certain platforms
that is why things like acl and xattr are currently not restored
cross platform e.g. from Linux to Mac or from Linux to Solaris etc.
The data is formated using platform specific routines and as
such doesn't make much sense on a different platform. Linux to Linux
restores just work even if its from RHEL to Suse or any other distribution.

So for me this problem is closed as a non problem but works as designed.
