hi...all

pls see the output of "ls"  for the folder where a NAS is mounted..

backup-server01:/opt/NASBackup # ls
Defu-vol2        NASDailyVol-0012  NASDailyVol-0017  NASDailyVol-0021
NAVol-mobilepicdump  RAC2ARCHVol-0027  RAC2ARCHVol-0035
RAC2ARCHVol-0041
lost+found       NASDailyVol-0014  NASDailyVol-0018  NASDailyVol-0031
RAC2ARCHVol-0022     RAC2ARCHVol-0028  RAC2ARCHVol-0036
RAC2ARCHVol-0067
MOBPICPVol-0030  NASDailyVol-0015  NASDailyVol-0019  NASDailyVol-0033

RAC2ARCHVol-0026     RAC2ARCHVol-0034  RAC2ARCHVol-0039

if i copy the Bacula volumes to tape after all the backups are done
... i mean copy the path "/opt/NASBackup" to tape.. is it make any
sense?

Is it possible to restore if i do like that...

And what if i run a job that backups this folder path (means backups
the whole NAS) to tape .. in this case all these Bacula volumes
going to be stored inside another large Bacula volume in tape.. is
that make any sense.. Is it possible to restore in this case..??

pls can anyone help me?

if i copy the Bacula volumes to tape after all the backups are done
... i mean copy the path "/opt/NASBackup" to tape.. is it make any
sense? Well, if you also *consistantly* backups your catalogs... It can make sense. But if you consider it does, maybe you should also backup the backups of your volumes too Wink.
Note that raw volume (without catalog) can be used to re-create catalogs entries but this a time consumming process, that make your backups less (quickly) usable.

Is it possible to restore if i do like that... As I said aboce, not directly, you need to first recover the catalog.

And what if i run a job that backups this folder path (means backups
the whole NAS) to tape .. in this case all these Bacula volumes
going to be stored inside another large Bacula volume in tape.. is
that make any sense.. Is it possible to restore in this case..?? I think this is a generally a bad idea, unless you use it in disaster situation only.

pls can anyone help me?

Hi Rushdhi.

Take a look at "Copy Jobs." That is the correct Bacula way of copying
backup jobs from one media such as the file volumes on the NAS to another
media such as removable tapes for off-site archiving.

Hi Rushdhi.

Take a look at "Copy Jobs."    That is the correct Bacula way of copying

In my own opinion, Copy Jobs is nice for Archiving or to make a copy
to a différent pool or storage type.
Here you want to copy from disk to tape so simply run a bacula Copy job.

In another case if you are looking for redundancy just run a tape copy
to another tape or a rsync of your volumes on another hard drive
