Post Newbie problem
Greetings,

I'm having a problem that I think it is simple, but after reading the
manual and googling around I cannot find the solution.

I'm running a restore of a previously backupjob, and bacula waits
indefinitely for "reserve a drive". Btw, I've configured only file
devices, no tapes at all, so I cannot understain why I get the busy message.

This is the status of my storage:

Hello

(there's no need to send your message more than once - If you require
immediate action, this is unlikely to work. In fact, it tends to make
people ignore your messages.)

Quite obvious, I think... the SD is waiting for the FD conection.

This might indicate a networking problem, a firewall misconfiguration,
or a broken setup of Bacula.

Make sure the client machine can connect to the SD - using ping to
ensure basic communication, and telnet to ensure the SD port can be
configured. Also, ensure the restore job you set up advertises the
correct SD address to the FD. Finally, see if the FD is running and
tries to access the SD. netstat is useful for this.

3602 JobId=11 device "NETStorage-Buffalo" (/mnt/bacula/BACULA/) is

This is another job which has to wait because the storage device is
already reserved by the restore job.

Hi,

(there's no need to send your message more than once - If you require

I'm really sorry about this, a problem on my smtp that occurred while
sending this email. Next time I will introduce myself better :)

Quite obvious, I think... the SD is waiting for the FD conection.

This might indicate a networking problem, a firewall misconfiguration,
or a broken setup of Bacula.

The FD and SD in this case are on the same machine. The firewall
configuration should be fine, the problem is the same without it. So
firewall and network couldn't be.
I don't think the problem could be a broken setup of bacula. If I stop
and restart bacula it work... it is like if it waits indefinitely for
something...

Thank you, and sorry to the bacula-list again for sending the message twice.

Ok... but next time you won't need an introduction ;-)

Have you tried telneting to the SD port?
Have you checked the FD status?

Hi,

I send this to the list. Otherwise, you'll have to pay me :-)

Please, if you want useful help, try to give as much useful detail as
possible. In this case, 'status client=...' would probably tell us
something.

What does
netstat tell you about the FDs network activity?

No connection, if you do not consider my ssh login. No network activity.

I was referring to network conections used by bacula-fd, not the whole
machine.

The only things that work when it happens is to stop bacula-sd, so the
job fails, and restart sd and job.

Usually, I don't fix problems by restarting things... much more useful
is to first understand what happens.

I'm making more test, to determine if the problem is part of the
auto-labeling process.

Good luck.

If you need any help, don't hesitate to ask - but please provide some
useful information.

Usually, we don't mind you telling us things about your setup, like you
use automatic labelng, what sort of operator messages you get, what the
current status of the daemons with problems is, and so on. In fact, it's
almost impossible to help if you don't provide that information. I'd
even bet that in most cases finding the relevant information makes you
see the problems you experience more clearly, helps you understand what
happens, and even enables you to fix things yourself.

Arno

Thank you

Did you ever get this resolved?

I just saw this error. Restarting my SD worked. We're on 1.3.xx

" Foo (/mnt/bacula/BACULA/) is busy (already reading/writing).

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. No other jobs are running. Gotta love it. I'll
grawk through the code later.
