I'm speccing up our new MA and tape library (yes it's finally being ordered!).
For now we're likely to stick with our Equallogic PS6000E as the maglib storage as we may be changing to way we handle some other backups, plus with hard drive prices as they are now it's not a great time to be buying lots of spindles unless we absolutely need to.
Our backups are currently D2D with Dedupe and aux copy to tape.
The tape library will be direct attached to the MA (Windows 2008 R2 I expect) via SAS.
For the Aux Copy, would I benefit more from a library with a single LTO5 drive or with dual LTO4 drives?
I’m always wary that the auxcopy rehydrate process introduces overhead but I’m never sure if you actually end up IO bound because of your maglib disk.
We do have a significant amount of perfectly good LTO4 media, though of course LTO5 could still write to this.
I can't help but think that the twin LTO4's should be the most flexible?
Not sure we could stretch to twin LTO5's and we sure as heck couldn’t drive them at anything like full speed.
