Backup Central

I dont seem to have been backup up any shared mailboxes. I have them selected in the auto discover but when I go to restore any of them they say... "Browse initializations failed for [<Path of backup job>]. All the user account ones are fine but all the shared accounts are like this?

Could it be to do with shared account AD user objects are disabled?

Any help o this would be great as I do need a restore and don't really want to have to go back to a database restore.

Hi Richard,

Does the account you're using for the Exchange Mailbox Agent have permissions to the shared mailboxes?

Yes. I ran into that as well as disabled accounts. CommVault by default doesn't backup disabled user accounts.

There is a registry setting to change that. I don't have it right now as I'm traveling. But search on CommVault disabled accounts.

As a test if you enable the account and run a backup does it work?

Yes the permissions are fine and when I enable the account it backs up the mailbox data. I have googled around for the reg key and am not able to find it. I have found one for getting commvault to backup disabled mailboxes in exchange 2003 but not for disabled user accounts and exchange 2007.

If anyone has this could they point me at it please.

As a test if you enable the account and run a backup does it work?

Yes I looked around a bit as well...I am on Exchange 2003 so the reg key was the fix.

I did find this article which is not promising...

"....The Exchange 2000/2003 Mailbox iDataAgent, Exchange 2000/2003 Mailbox Archiver and Exchange 2000/2003 Compliance Archiver Agents do not back up or archive disabled mailboxes by default. However, if you would like to include disabled mailboxes in the data protection operations for these agents, you can add the nBackupDisabledMailBoxes registry key

Note that mailboxes marked as disabled in Exchange Server 2007 are disconnected by default and therefore cannot be archived or backed up....."

You might have to throw a call into support and see what they say. Surely they have to be able to get it in 2007 as well.
