Commvault Server move Dilemma
Author Message
Post Commvault Server move Dilemma
We are currently running Commserve 7.0 on a server that has several client computers with media agents installed. We are using MD1000s as storage resources as well as a tape drive. We want to move backup servers. However, we do not want the delay in backups by waiting for full backups to run.

Our ideal scenario would be to clean install Commserve 8.0 on the new server, add the agents and begin full backups. Once the full backups are complete, we can then continue running synthetic fulls and incrementals. We would then take the old server down and rename the new server to the old servers name and use the same IP, thus using one license agian.

Is it possible to run 2 Commvault installations in parallel, talking to the same agents, without a secondary license? I know the evaluation licenses can be used to install and run the Commserve. But can the media agents only talk to full licensed products? Can the media agents talk to two separate installations?

We know that there is an option to restore the database, but our concern lies with moving over the MD1000s as that could result in data loss.

If anyone has ever had a similar scenario and has a solution, I would greatly appreciate it.
