MediaAgents that participate in a gridstore configuration ( sharing same storage policy that is dedup enabled) needs to share the storage with each other. This is because deduplication happens at a storage policy copy level and data backed up to one MA will refer to data backed up on another MA. During restore/read operations the reader process has to put together all blocks from all reference data blocks residing on various MediaAgents that are part of the same storage policy copy to recreate the backup stream. Hence the requirement that MediaAgents that form datapaths in a DeDup storage policy needs to share out their local storage via UNC for read purpose.

Surely you are only referring to media agents that share a mag lib in the same storage policy copy data path?
Can I be confident that media agents that don't share a storage policy copy data path and are otherwise unrelated don't have this constraint?

All MediaAgents need to have at least RO-access to all MagLibs and mountpoints for gridstor to work with dedup.
I have 2 possible ways of doing this as of now.
First way is to use nfs to share all mountpoints and create a replicated MagLib.
Drawback of this plan is if one MA is down, it will simply not work at all.
Other way is to use some sort of cluster-aware filesystem on all MA's that will be in that StoragePolicy.
How have you guys solved this little "issue" with dedup and gridstor?
