Post Archiving - Questions
Can anyone who uses the Commvault Windows/Linux File System Archive Client provide any feedback on it please?

I'm just starting to look at what options we have to archive old data. Ideally I'd like Commvault to manage the data rather than introduce yet another platform, which seems to imply using their archive product.

My specific concern is over how it works in conjunction with capacity based backup licensing, as obviously the idea of archiving data is to reduce our active data and the cost associated with protecting it - this is something that isn't overly clear from BOL.

Any info would be great.

Thanks,
Paul

Paul,

On a CLA license, archiving capacity is licensed separately (and at a lower cost) than backup capacity.

Note that if you're using the new "One-Pass agent" (backup and archive in one pass) capability, then both the BACKUP AND ARCHIVE quantity off that client count towards ARCHIVE capacity.  One-Pass is available for Windows (documentation) and UNIX hosts (documentation).

You can get more details (and pricing) from your local account team.  If you haven't seen the Advanced page of the CLA Licensing Books Online page, that may answer some of your questions, too.

Cheers!

Troy

Post Archiving - Questions
Paul,

It is documented under Data Archiving Usage. It is separately licensed under DataArchive capacity

http://documentation.commvault.com/commvault/release_9_0_0/books_online_1/english_us/prod_info/features.htm?var1=http://documentation.commvault.com/commvault/release_9_0_0/books_online_1/english_us/features/license/capacity_license_advanced.htm

The advanced tab in doc page describes in detail how the calculation is done.
