Error Code: 91:29 Unable to download the VMX file for Virtua
Better late than never. Last workaround I remember was:
1) Set root password on each ESX server to same password
2) Create local account on vCenter host called 'root', with local Administrator rights, same password as the ESX farm
3) Set CommVault to use the 'root' account when authenticating with vCenter
You also needed the latest commvault service pack for this as well (I'm assuming this is a Simpana v8.0 environment).
Please note, from memory that by default, the local Administrators group on the VirtualCenter host has access to the "Hosts & Clusters" object which is propogated down through the environment - if you've locked your environment down hard then you could grant the 'root' account access via the datacenter/cluster object in VMware (my memory of VMware security is a bit shaky too, so apply your own knowledge here or ask your VMware administrator to confirm you have access)
Going through old emails this seemed to be the issue if you need further background on this for change requests or the like:
"Requirement for this workaround is due to a known ESX issue where we are
unable to download the vmx configuration file directly from the
VirtualCenter host. VMware is currently working on resolving the
problem which may be released in the next incremental update for ESX.
Our workaround relies on attempting to download it from vCenter, and if
that fails, we look up which ESX host the VM currently resides on then
directly query that host - the root account comes in here because the
ESX servers themselves have no capability (by default) to query Active
Directory to map it to a local unix user."
If you don't want to set the same root password across the farm, would highly recommend getting up to 4.1, or 4.0U2, not just for the commvault fix either (a happy VMware environment is a patched VMware environment...
)

Speaking with support this is fixed when upgrading Vcenter to 4 update 2 or 4.1
