Post Exact copy from tape to tape
Good Day.
Is it possible on Simpana 7 to make an exact copy of a tape?
I have a Library with 2 LTO 4 Drives, can I get a tape, put it in Drive 1 and copy it to another tape on Drive 2?
Thanks.

You want the Media Refresh function:

Hopefully that answers the question because I don't want to hijack the thread, but I did want to talk about something similar.

Before we switched to Commvault in 2006, I ran Veritas Netbackup. I liked Netbackup. Good product, but couldn't back up Netware anymore (and we're heavy Novell netware).
The one feature Netbackup always had that I WISH commvault had (And probably never will) is that you can pick and choose any backups from your database and consolidate them onto a single tape (and you can set a new expiration date).

Example: I have a Disaster Recovery test coming up. I want these 2 backups from server A, these 3 from server B, these 3 from server C. Put them all on this one tape. Click, done. Tape mounting.

Now if I wanted to even come close to that, I'd have to do a selective backup, which means full backups only AND I have to hope all the backups are in the same Storage Policy. AND I have to clutter that storage policy with another copy.

Does this sound like a feature that people would want? Besides DR tests, I always used that feature in Netbackup to consolidate half-full tapes. It's a feature I thought was always missing from CV.

No, quite a valid point because that exact use case is a bit painful in v7/v8 and I've had to do the same thing.

V9 changed the way media refresh worked, but I've not tried it out yet:
