Exchange 2003 Cluster on Archiver Agent
Author Message
Post Exchange 2003 Cluster on Archiver Agent
Currently my Exchange 2003 Archiver Agent is installed on the virtual node. I've been using the Archiver for about 3 years now. Currently running Simpana 8.

We will be upgrading to Simpana 9 & Exchange 2010. I was told by my Commvault SE that in order to decommision the current Exchange 2003 server I will need to recall all of the items that the archiver has archived.

The reasoning was that I won't be able to recall any items archived by the virtual node unless I leave the Exchange 2003 servers up & running.

Does anyone have any experience with this and is it true that I won't be able to recall older items if my Exchange 2003 cluster goes away?

Thanks,

Jim

AFAIK this is not true ... the stub contains the pointer back to the Archive job, so as long as your new exchange nodes have the Archiver Agent correctly configured and listening for a recall request as per the Deployment instructions, then your stubbed email will recall -- regardless if you shift Exchange servers, move your mailbox around, or migrate that mailbox from Exchange 2003 to 2010.

I'd ask the SE to chat further about it, or have a side discussion with Support.
