Exchange 2007 Database Restore Issue
Author Message
Post Exchange 2007 Database Restore Issue
I am trying to restore an Exchange 2007 database.. This database no longer exists in my environment but I need to find some particular emails from a certain time period. The backup and restore job was done using the Exchange agent. I am getting the following error.. Has anyone seen knows or know what the issue might be? I tried restoring to a Recovery group as well as to an offline location.. Still no luck

The Exchange server returned the following error message: [0xc7ff1005] - [Error returned from a callback function call (0x%X).
]. Api: [HrESERestoreAddDatabase()], Item: [Executives]

Thanks You,
Christian Slack

Post Exchange 2007 Database Restore Issue
Christian,

The error code 0xc7ff1005 refers to an invalid argument and the context is that this is happening while you are trying to add the DB to the Recovery group. Restoring outside Exchange would not give you this error generated by Exchange.

This may be caused among other things, by:
- Your AD has been modified since the backup was made and users may have been removed from AD. This can prevent you from restoring in a Recovery Group
- Your database still exist on the Exchange server
- The storage group that was hosting the DB no longer exist on the server. If it doesn't exist, you need to name your recovery storage group with the same name as the original one.

If your restore fails when restoring outside of Exchange, you may not have sufficient capacity to restore the BD on your target.

By the way, if you can recover to an offline location, you could then use the Offline Mining Tool for Exchange to recover messages.

Regards,

Phil
