My last question (which was in mid-thread) was regarding the consolidation of backups to a single tape (or single copy job), which it was said would be available via media refresh in v9.
There was another feature in NetBackup that I had liked which is extremely convoluted to do in Commvault.
Some of our remote offices have a lot of data, even incrementals. While we do Synthetic Full with them, my Telecom manager is always harping that I should be running them 1 at a time, as multiple simultaneous jobs will cause too many collisions at the switch, lowering the amount of total throughput that I could be getting. I don't dispute that.
In netbackup, I could do that by setting up something like a CV schedule policy where no more than 1 backup in that group could run at the same time (but they'd all go into queue at the same time).
Now, as far as I know the only way I can do that in CV v8 would be if each location had their own storage policy and I could limit the number of streams.
Frankly, I'd rather not have 38 storage policies to solve this problem (with 38 remote offices).
Will there/Is there a way to group up clients so that you can limit the number of currently running jobs without having to give them their own storage policy?
