Growing Pains

Post Growing Pains
Well, I'm moving from Netbackup to Commvault Galaxy and I'm already feeling the growing pains. Aside from having to use windows I'm going to miss the "better than tech support" user community that NetBackup has. I'm not seeing a lot of posts out there and I imagine most people just contact support if they need help.

Things could be worse I guess.

I've set up a test environment of 7.0 while I wait on requisitions of hardware and software. Even though I definitely have IIS working and am able to run commcell over the web, when I try to run a report it says it can't display it. The reason being of course that "IIS is not configured on this host". So says commvault, over IIS.

I've gotten the extra utilities pack, the name of which escapes me at the moment, and tried running InstallGalaxyWeb.exe but it says

InstallGalaxyWeb utility - Commvault Systems Inc.

Please wait... this may take a few minutes
Failed to create galaxy web alias [Galaxy].

Well that's nice...

Any ideas?

Yeah, I was hoping to do this without having to have an alternate iis server. I just wanted it to be all self-contained on one box. Another one of our sites has the commcell and iis server on the same box under 6.x.

Welcome to the club! We're in the midst of a move from Legato to CommVault as well. So far it's going ok, but there are some teething problems with a NetApp cluster and NDMP and devices disappearing on us.

Or other sites with NDMP, Netapps and CV are working fine, so we're kinda stumped so far.

But, as a long long time Networker user, I have to say that I've been pleasently happy with CV and it's GUI. It's not completely consistent, and it's not the same way that Networker would do things, but overall it's not terrible. Heck, the fact that I can run the same GUI on my Linux desktop as on my Windows box is huge to me.

Next up is to customize all the various alerts and to try and get a better way to summarize nightly backups with a purely text based report. This HTML reporting sucks at times.

I'm also wishing there was a way to get a report when each client (possibly sub-client) completes, but one that's easy to summarize, along with noting those which are taking more than 24 hours to complete, etc.

Thanks,
John
