Post Index Error on Restore
Hello-
Trying to do a restore and getting a pop up box stating "Browsing the path requires index to be restored...." Points me to a container, but when I select Recall Media to start it goes to "Please wait while index is being restored...." then "unable to find/get index in cache....

For this client I get this issue for all incrementals back to the last full which is fine. Trying to understand what this means. I have a shared index cache. I though the index was written to each job and to the shared index, giving me two areas I can restore from? Also, what do I need to do to recover? Run a new full, etc???

Thanks as always.

Post Index Error on Restore
The way I do this is prior to a restore where I know it will ask for tapes for index, I go to the server, do a backup history, highlight the dates I'll be using, right click -> view media. I then make sure that media is in the library.

If you're having this error when everything is on disk, try manually setting the date/time on "browse data on" to be the exact same minute/second as the end of the backup you're using.

Thanks Bill. Backup is on disk. Tried your method but no luck. May have been following steps out of order. Right click defaultbackupset ...specify browse time. In put end of backup job. Don't see option to list seconds... Also went to Default sub client...right click backup history and specified the start and end time of job no luck...Am I in the wrong spots?

Post Index Error on Restore
That one was just a guess on my part. I've never had issues with indexing if the data was on disk. I get this error frequently with tapes because for some reason the index isn't exactly synched to the backup end times so I was shown how to force it (And it was probably just to the minute). This was back in CV 7 though. I rarely have to use that since all of my issues are now on tape, which gets resolved by making sure the tapes are ready prior to the restore (in my system, if it has to ask for the tape and it's not in the library, it never works and I have to kill the browse).

So yeah, I just got the time down to the minute of the backup completion and entered that into the "browse data before" boxes on the browse and recover window.

Usually, I start my restore process by just right clicking the client and doing All Tasks -> Browse & Recover, but sometimes you get a better browse by right clicking the backupset you want and selecting Browse Backup Data. The Browse Backup Data from the backupset is useful because sometimes the index error has to do with the configuration of your subclients.

Example:
I backup /etc/stuff but that's it. I don't back up anything else in /etc or any of the root filesystem
If I do a all tasks > Browse & Recover, it hiccups because when I expand Defaultbackupset, it's trying to find an index for the / filesystem first before I can even browse to /etc. Default Backupset -> All Tasks ->Browse Backup Data allows you to specify the browse path ahead of time. Maybe you could try that and see if that's your problem. You need to start your browse right where the data you want is. (Just grasping at this point though)
