I am very new to comm vault and has been assigned with the task to rectify our configuration due to many issues on a daily basis.
I would appreciate if some guidance,directions can be given to me on the issues mentioned below:-
Inconsistencies in our backup policies. Each site has been configured using one of two templates - depending on whether the site used a tape library or stand-alone drive. In theory all sites should be using one of two policies, however, in reality we have found many jobs which have the wrong/different configurations
Our issues range from:
The wrong retention settings on jobs (e.g. settings for month end)
Tapes being labelled with the wrong formats or site code
Blank reports sent to users, or reports instructing sites to use incorrect tapes for the next backup
Security within the console - the security has not been set correctly, any users who have access to the CommVault console appear to have admin access - we require different access groups to define different levels of access within the console
Training - a number of our users have not had basic training in the system and struggle to take ownership of the responsibilities of changing tapes. We often have issues where sites are not changing tapes.
We are unsure if we are making the best use of client agents - we have some systems using SQL or Domino agents and other sites which perform standard file system backups.
