Post Keeping a killed job
Is there any way to use a partially completed backup that has been
killed? We have a job that ran for 3 days and was killed at 90%. Is
the 2.4TB that it backed up wasted? Is there any chance we can restore
from the 90% that was backed up?

Hi Martin,

Sure there is a way. You have to do a browse at storage policy level to
find the stil usefull (restorable) results of a killed job.
First, check out which storagepolicy is assigned to the involved subclient.

Then, go to Policies => storage policies and find your storagepolicy. On
that policy, do a right mouseclick and select "View" and then "Jobs"
Untick the "Specift browse time" button here. You'kll get a listing of all
jobs who have written data to that policy.
Now you should also see your killed job at this level. Once found, you
could do a "Browse" by a right mouseclick on that particular job.

If you don't see that killed job, you could consider the following:

- Open the control panel, browse to "Browse/Search/Recovery" option.
- Once opened, you can optionally tick the checkbox which says "Show aged
data during browse and recovery"

This way you should really see all jobs which have been performed within
that storage policy.

Finally, if you are at Simpana 9, you have an option to re-submit the job.
It will try to finish then.
Good luck and cheers !

Hi Martin,
When you right-click your defaultBackupSet, you should see option to "Restore by Jobs". If you Restore by Jobs, you can restore from failed job, a killed job, or an aged job. Let us know if you can see this or try this, thanks!

Adding to what Evan's said, I believe you can only do restore by jobs for some agents, not all.
And also once data aging has run, that killed job will be erased from your magnetic library.  If its direct to tape, then yes you can still try to access it. On 13-May-2011 6:05 AM, "ebtrain" <ebtrain < at > yahoo.com (ebtrain < at > yahoo.com)> wrote:> Hi Martin,
