Post Manage Prunable Media
Hello All,
I'm still a newbie and need some help/advice with tapes and prunable media.
Unfortunately I'm runnig out of tapes to use. We are using a 24 slot HP LTO3 library with one tape drive. This drive is most certainly over used...
If a tape is "prunable", does it meen I can use it again? I have a report that shows me all the prunable tapes, but when I put them into the library they don't get written to.
Please help.
Thanks.

You have to run a Data Aging job to reclaim prunable media. It can be submitted from the GUI, but it's a good idea to schedule Data Aging to run regularly --- we run at least once a day.

Post Manage Prunable Media
Hello,

So if a tape is displayed in the report for prunable media and I run data aging, does the tape diplay as "scratch media" then?
I have a few tapes that are marked as prunable, or that are displayed in my report for prunable media.
When I put these tapes back into the library I had to select "Delete Contents". How do I get tapes to be overridden automatically?
Thanks.

That's correct, running data aging should cause prunable tapes to be put
back into your scratch pool. One thing to look at, is the entire tape
prunable? If there are multiple jobs on it, a single job whose retention
requirements have not been met can prevent the tape from being recycled.
Also make sure you are selecting the proper options on the data aging
job to include your clients and policies (we generally select "All" to
make sure we don't miss anything).
