Media Agent Loses Network Connection
Originally we were using a Myricom 10g interface card. We have also had problems with the native dell 2950 broadcom 1g card. It could be Symantec causing issues except there is nothing in the logs to suggest any intervention it is taking, right now we are re-imaging the media agent to see if there is something else happening. It could be an id10-t error on the part of our server team, we will see.
Thanks for your help and suggestions everyone,
Andy

What sort of NIC is it?
And is there an anti-virus agent installed on the Media Agent, and if so, does it have any anti-malware/anti-network propagation capabilities?
Have seen that do similar things like this before

I usually check a few things for all network problems. Assuming your MA is Windows, take the DHCP address you have and temporarily make it a static. Make sure it has the gateway you want along with a subnet mask. Check that it's on the top of your Bind Order (Adapters and Bindings tab). On the MA's command prompt, make sure you can ping your own gateway. Do a tracert to the client you're trying to back up, and see where it stops. This might bring out any issues in your switch's config.
Beyond that, I'm not sure. That's where I'd start.

Thanks Bill, we are using DHCP and I did try that but the connection still drops. The odd thing is that ipconfig shows the correct ip but the server is not pingable.

I have an issue that just started last week. Each time I run a backup job my media agent loses network connection within 60 seconds of the job starting. In order to restore the network connection I can either release/renew the IP address, or stop the Commvault services.
So far I have tried swapping out the 10G NIC, updating the driver, switching to a 1G interface, uninstalling and reinstalling the Media Agent software. I have changed the media agent hardware, I have also changed the switch that the media agent is connected to.
Anyone come across something like this before? There is nothing in the event logs except loss of connection errors. I am stumped and anything you all could suggest would be helpful. There are no errors reported during a packet capture either.
Thanks,
-Andy
