NDMP tape restore

Post NDMP tape restore
Hi all,

We have the NDMP backup tapes at CommServe #1.
The LTO library was attached to NetApp Filer directly.

We have another CommServe at remote site - CommServe #2.
Does anyone knows how to restore the data at CommServe #2?
Do we need to buy another Filer at remote site?
And do I need to consider about index cache folder?

regards,

T

Is this a DR exercise or a functionality test?   Are you trying to restore a small amount of data or the entire backup?

Normally I'd have one CommServe managing all my sites so cross-filer restores would be easier to execute, the hiccup here is you having multiple CommCells, so if I can get an idea as to what you're intending on doing here it would help me give you a better answer..

Cheers,
Luke

Thanks for a reply Luke.

I am testing DR function now.
So at this moment data amount is small.
But in the future we need to restore the data
as possible as we can.

I thought that if we are able to restore the data to DR CommCell
it seems more easier. Will it be simple to manage in one CommCell?

Thanks,

T

There's a commvault license you can buy called the NDMP Restore Enabler. This is something I installed onto one of my media agents (though I think it can go on any client as well). This becomes an alternate location to restore NDMP Data. However, it must be part of the same Commcell. Is your commserve #2 using a DR Commserve license? That's what we do with ours so I can just import the production database into the new location and use it like normal (but with a different name and IP)

The stream still needs to restore via a filer if the tapes were written by the filer

They are not CV format tape, they are NetApp format

If they were written by CV via a media agent to a tape drive, they can be restored by CV without a filer
