Hi,
Why is everybody always doubtful about Linux. IMHO this is mostly about missing on Linux knowledgeexperience.
I have often seen less CPU loads by using Linux, better memory management an no M$ Windows license needed.
For the daily management of your Commcell environment there won't be any difference since the Commvault icons stay the same and also the handling within the Commserve GUI.
You will be freed of those annoying updates and normal Windows management; Linux is mostly install and forget.
I can understand if you aren't familiar with LinuxUnix in common that in that case the "$afe" way would be preferred.
I have good Commvault experiences with Centos Linux version 5 and above. (equals RedHat Enterprise Linux)
Kind regards,
Marcel Hergaarden

Subject: [commvault] Optimum Config for Maglib?
We’re trialling d2d with dedupe. Right now we’re using whatever free disk space we have on one of our media agents, but it’s not the quickest.
If we go ahead with d2d with dedupe I’d be looking to totally reconfigure the array the media agent is connected to, and some other changes I’m in the process of means the entire array would be freed up.
So if you had a choice of Windows 2008 x64, or Windows 2003 x64, and had a server connected to a dedicated iSCSI SAN which had in it 14 x 1tb SATA/MDL SAS drives, what would you do in terms of disk config both at the SAN level and at the Windows level and the Commvault Media Agent level please?
Potentially, installing Linux on the media agent is an option, but there would need to be a huge benefit in doing so.
Thanks,
Paul
