SAP util-file, for top performance should be run with multiple streams..
Start with 4x and test performance as appropriate, we found testing in increments of 2x helped greatly in fine tuning sap performance
Also we had to send logs in multiple streams to disk, using a D2D2T storage policy for best performance and to allow us to keep our logs on tape for a long time while only retaining thrm on disk for a couple of Weeks (again start with 4x streams and test) On 25 May 2012 16:16, "piyushpanchal85 < at > yahoo.com (piyushpanchal85 < at > yahoo.com)" <piyushpanchal85 < at > yahoo.com (piyushpanchal85 < at > yahoo.com)> wrote:

This may also mean you need to use multiplexing to ensure your backups complete in time, so factor that into your testing, this site we have multiplexing set to 3 (here our testing came out best with DB backups run to tape with 6 streams, logs to disk with 4 streams... So 2 tape drives per database backup...)
I would advise to try to not use multiplexing above a factor of 4-5 with sap as the higher the mpx factor, the slower the restores On 25 May 2012 16:22, "Luke Walker" <luke < at > blackduck.nu (luke < at > blackduck.nu)> wrote:

Multiplexing is done from storage policy copy level, if you enable it for the SP copy it affects all backups going into that SP copy
whereas multi streaming is done from the sap subclient AND instance properties under the client computer On 25 May 2012 16:36, "Piyush Panchal" <piyushpanchal85 < at > yahoo.com (piyushpanchal85 < at > yahoo.com)> wrote:

Multiplexing is done from storage policy copy level, if you enable it for
the SP copy it affects all backups going into that SP copy

whereas multi streaming is done from the sap subclient AND instance
properties under the client computer

This may also mean you need to use multiplexing to ensure your backups
complete in time, so factor that into your testing, this site we have
multiplexing set to 3 (here our testing came out best with DB backups run
to tape with 6 streams, logs to disk with 4 streams... So 2 tape drives per
database backup...)

I would advise to try to not use multiplexing above a factor of 4-5 with
sap as the higher the mpx factor, the slower the restores

SAP util-file, for top performance should be run with multiple streams..

Start with 4x and test performance as appropriate, we found testing in
increments of 2x helped greatly in fine tuning sap performance

Also we had to send logs in multiple streams to disk, using a D2D2T
storage policy for best performance and to allow us to keep our logs on
tape for a long time while only retaining thrm on disk for a couple of
Weeks (again start with 4x streams and test)

Hi Luke,

Are you using util file, rman file?
-> Through util file

Are you writing to disk or tape?
-> Writing to tape

how many streams are you using for both database and log backups?
-> Single stream for both backup

do you see more slow down with database backup phase or log phase or the
whole backup overall?

-> It whole overall backup
