I ended up calling support. We got around the scsi errors. Support disabled the troublesome scsi commands. It's not in front of me right now, but I think it was on the library's drive properties tab.
I'm calling this one resolved. Thanks very much for all the input!

hey Rowan.
TUR can be an issue with fabric attached libraries - interesting that it
also may affect iSCSI too.

I'd recommend a read of the following MS KB article

polling as it may (and from past experience has) resolve this type of issue.

Run your unload/mount test.  You also may need to run Library and Drive

See if that works.

Thanks for the suggestion. I found the IBM Tape Diagnostic Tool (ITDT)
and it has no problems accessing the drive. It passes the tests with flying
colors. That leads me to believe it's a Commvault configuration issue. Any
ideas what might cause the drive reservations to fail such as trying to
reserve it twice or something to that nature?
Thanks,
James

iSCSI to SAS Bridge?!?!
Not sure any advice would be printable...
I would firstly shutdown all Commvault services and fully test the tape
library with Dell provided diagnostic/test tool.
Once any issues have been identified and remediated, then turn on the
Commvault services.
This should have been done by whoever commissioned the library.

Hello All,
This may be a question for Dell or Commvault support, but I'm going
to run
it by you folks first to see if anyone has some advice. I am very new
to
commvault and tape libraries so the likelihood is high that I'm doing
something wrong.
Windows Server 2003 x86
Simpana 8.0.0
Dell PowerEdge TL2000 connected via iSCSI to SAS bridge
Dell driver package R192496 installed
Device Manager shows:
IBM TotalStorage 3573 Tape Library, driver: Microsoft 5.2.3790.0
IBM ULT3580-TD4, driver: IBM Corporation, 6.1.8.9
I configured the library in Simpana. Everything looks ok and the
tapes show
up in the "Media By Location/Media In Library" view. If I try to do
anything
with the drive, such as unload it or verify media, I get SCSI
reservation
command errors such as:
Event Code: 32:260, Description: "Failed to mount medium from Slot
[slot
1]. SCSI Operation: Open Drive Device. Reason: SCSI-2 Reservation
Command to
the Drive failed. Advice: Please make sure that drive supports SCSI-2
Reserve/Release Commands and that it's not reserved by any
third-party
application."
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
James
