Simpana 9 SnapProtect with NetApp NFS for VMware questions
Author Message
Post Simpana 9 SnapProtect with NetApp NFS for VMware questions
Anyone using or tried this one yet? if so, can you point to a How-to doc (can't find one!) or share the experience? Any caveats you can share? Is that a real SnapProtect as with a block-level offhost snapshot backup or just re-branded Simpana VSA with VADP support and NBD transfer mode?
BTW, official Simpana 9 online documentation seems to be out of date as it claims block-level only. Commvault rep stated its old documentation and SnapProtect works with NFS, but no docs on this subject.
Cheers,
George

I have tried this out in a POC, it was easy to setup and seemed to work well, i'm still testing. Compared to VADP its alot faster, VADP is good for smaller environments but when you get into a larger environment (i have 15+ esx servers) getting all the vm's backed up in one night can take some time....

I'm running Netapp hardware and as far as Netapp is concerned CIFs/NFS/FC/Iscsi volumes are all supported.

i know in a previous version for netapp only block based volumes were supported, I remember seeing a matrix in one our presos showing the disk vendors and what types of volumes are supported, maybe you can ask your SE for this.
