I recently upgraded from Simpana 8 to V9 and ran into a issue with space limitations. CommVault requires 2.2GB of free space to install. This space requirement existed in V8 but was not enforced, V9 actually checks for the free space and halts the install until the space is made available.

Overkill, go straight to v9
make sure you're patched to latest v7 updates first and check mainadv for any v7 to v9 upgrade patches
