Backup Central

Hello!


I am preparing to perform an upgrade of my CommCell from 8.0 SP5 to 9.0 SP2 this weekend. I have a mix of 32 and 64 bit Windows 2003 and 2008 servers, as well as seven EMC Celerra boxes doing NDMP over fibre to various tape libraries across the United States. Most of the 400+ clients are simple file system backups without deduplication. I do however have one Exchange 2003 server, several domain controllers with Active Directory iDataAgents, and a SharePoint 2007? server. CommVault support has recently staged my database and confirmed it is clean for the upgrade. I have likewise confirmed that I have plenty of space on both my primary and backup CommServe machines, as well as my media servers, to support the upgrade.



The only remotely exotic thing in my storage infrastructure is a collection of Windows servers that do not get direct backup (except for system state), but have their SAN-attached LUNs cloned on an EMC CLARiiON CX4-960 array using EMC SnapView, with the clone LUNs mounted on a pair of media servers for backup. The LUN cloning and mounting is managed by EMC Replication Manager. The end of the clone session runs a qoperation script that starts a backup of the subclient associated with the clone LUN. A secondary copy of in the storage policy for these cloned LUNs is on a deduplicated magnetic library running on a set of Windows 2003 R2 64-bit servers.
