 Virtual Agent Restore Questions
I am backing up Virtual servers using the Virtual Server agent using the File Level Backup option. Is there a way to restore individual files from a virtual server backup back to the original server if that server does not have a file system agent installed? Do I actually have to have file system agents on all my virtual windows servers in order to do a direct restore?

Yes you would need an agent to do the restore in the vm, it can be done using a restore only agent which does not consume license. Alternate option is to do the restore using unc path where an agent on the machine is not required.

Thanks but where is that restore only agent software located? Also I have tried UNC path on the Virtual Center agent restore but fails.

Oh yes the File system IDAgent, but that does consume a license.

Yes you would need an agent to do the restore in the vm, it can be done using a restore only agent which does not consume license. Alternate option is to do the restore using unc path where an agent on the machine is not required.

Virtual Agent Restore Questions
No not yet. I am on version 8.0 I cannot upgrade until next month sometime due to the fact I am using an OEM version.

Hi Chris
Yes you would need an agent to do the restore in the vm, it can be done using a restore only agent which does not consume license. Alternate option is to do the restore using unc path where an agent on the machine is not required.

Virtual Agent Restore Questions
Version 9 would allow you to install an agent without consuming license (for restore purposes), or even release license through right click if you want to use it only for restore purposes.
