Post accidentally deleted a volume
I have accidentally deleted a volume from the media database.
I there a way to add this volume back without using the scanner program?

TIA

Yes but it will do more than just adding this volume. You could run
mmrecov and then nsrck -L7 but there will be many other effects. It will
also restore the media database and indices for all other tapes back to
the time of your last bootstrap and index backups, and will leave you
out of step with the real state of your physical tapes. I wouldn't
recommend it for just one tape.

Scanner is your best option, what do you have against using it?

Uhm, As far as I know you will have to get the Media Database back - =
basically a mmrecov. This carries its own risks as - if you have done =
any backups since your last bootstrap backup these migth be lost.

Once you have the tape back you can do a nsrck -L7 on the specific =
clients that were part of the backup to that tape to get their indexes =
back.

All in all 'scanner' might end up being faster. And less effort...

Riaan,

Since only a volume was deleted, the media index itself is still intact and does not need to be recovered. The simplest way to fix this is to use scanner -i for the tape volume that was deleted. Once scanner is complete, follow it with nsrck -L6. This will add the tape volume back to the media index and restore all the associated client indexes as well.
