Post Announcing EMC NetWorker 7.6 SP3
Hello,
Today we announced NetWorker 7.6 SP3. This release is focused on Total
Customer Experience (TCE), supportability enhancements, but also includes
a few key functional enhancements. Please visit the Community for details
as well as a quick demo of the new Mac recovery GUI.
http://bit.ly/sgyHh1

Also, we put up a new poll and would love your feedback. Currently, the
admin guide documents the use of SMIT/smitty for AIX- should this be
expanded for installp? Here's the link for the poll (login required):

Thanks!

Does anyone know if the NMC problems with the latest JRE 1.6 versions
was fixed? I don't see a mention of it being a problem or being fixed in
the released notes...

I'm tired of always having to dismiss the Java update dialogs... Smile

I just unchecked the "Check for updates" section, so it wouldn't bother
me. Did have to remove it from my startup, tho ...

Maybe the java issues will go away eventually as DART is implemented
across the planet to replace Java. This article suggests java is
inadequate to handle future computing needs.

Hi Kevin,

NetWorker's SMTape implementation will indeed support backup to disk. This is utilizing DSA (DSA acts as an agent in the performance of backups between a NetWorker server and the SMTape "client". Similarly, a DSA will act as the agent in the recovery between a NetWorker server and the SMTape "client").

Regards,
Kurt

update 29/Java 7 were both fixed for 7.6 SP3.

Thanks for posting this Allan!

What's the right process to get the release notes for SP3 updated to
reflect this information? Is it something that a customer can initiate,
or will it go faster if initiated from within EMC?

I ask because the NMC/Java issue impacted a lot of customers, so having
the release notes reflect that it's fixed would really help customers that
don't follow this list/forum.

Thanks,

Tim

Thanks, and I didn't mean that you would be required to do the work to
get it updated! If there's a process that I could initiate to get the
relnotes updates, I would be happy to do that. I just don't know what
the process is.

People are happy to have EMC employees participate in the mailing list,
but that shouldn't mean that you get stuck doing a bunch of additional
work every time you post to the list. Wink

I found out that it is in the release notes. Just a bit hard to find if
you are searching on Java rather than JRE (looking to remedy that too).
Smile But check out page 63. Have a good weekend!

Configuration problems and limitations
JRE 6 Update 29 and JRE 7 Update 1 compatibility issues with NMC for
NetWorker 7.6 SP2 and earlier (fixed in NetWorker 7.6 SP3)
NW134183 (esg125257)
JRE version 6 Update 29 (JRE 1.6.0_29) and JRE 7 Update 1 are not
supported by
NMC for NetWorker release 7.6 SP2 and earlier. NMC will not function
correctly if
these versions are installed.
Workaround
If you are using the latest NetWorker cumulative release (NetWorker
7.6.2.5 Build
681), uninstall the unsupported JRE version and install JRE 7 or previously
supported JRE versions (JRE 6 Update 27 and earlier).
If you are using a NetWorker release previous to 7.6.2.5 Build 681,
uninstall the
unsupported JRE version and install JRE 6 Update 26 or an earlier JRE 6
version.
JRE 6 Update 27 and JRE 7 compatibility issues with NMC for NetWorker
releases previous to 7.6.2.5 Build 681 (fixed in NetWorker 7.6 SP2)
NW128816 (esg124036)
JRE version 6 Update 27 (JRE 1.6.0_27) or later and JRE 7 are not
supported by
NMC for NetWorker 7.6 SP2 or earlier. NMC will not function correctly if
these
versions are installed.
Workaround
If JRE version 6 Update 27 or JRE 7 is currently installed, update to
NetWorker
7.6.2.5 cumulative Build 681.
