Backing up Win2008 R2 using NW 7.4.5?

You don't need an enabler code to install 7.5sp2 on the client. I'm also running my server at
7.4sp5 (plus a few hot fixes) and have several clients that are 2008R2 -- and they're using
7.5sp2 without issue.

Post Backing up Win2008 R2 using NW 7.4.5?
I will be upgrading my NW installation from 7.4.5 to 7.5.2 soon (we're
doing other domain upgrades the next few weekends, and I don't want to be
upgrading too many things at once). But we did just add a new application
server, running Win2008 R2. And I'd like to be able to back it up (even
partially), for the next few weeks, until I can upgrade my NW
infrastructure to properly support Win2008 R2. But I am getting a message,
when I try to back up my Win2008 R2 client:

Could not run savefs: The requested operation requires elevation.

Now, the Win2008 R2 client is running also 7.4.5 (64 bit), because I don't
have a 7.5.2 enabler code (yet).

Could that be the cause of the problem? If not, where next to look?

Thanks

About your error msg," Could not run savefs: The requested operation

I suspect the account being used to start nsrexecd on the client
to not be granted of enough admin rights. Try launching nsrexecd
from default system account.

The Networker services runs as "Local System", which should let it
execute, AFAIK. I've seen no documentation that says that Networker
services need to run under a defined user account with access privileges,
even on Win2008 R2. But perhaps I've missed that part ...

It's not what I said : I haven't said you need to run nsrexecd
using a dedicated user, I suspected you changed user account
to a specific user (eg for exchange, sql, ....) that has not
enough rights ...

No, I didn't. I did not change the user account of the service. And the
user account I installed it as is a local administrator.
I am trying to run a backup job from the server, and getting that error. I
am not running the backup from the client.

Perhaps I don't understand what you are trying to say.

I think he is saying to change the service account on the target R2
server to run nsrexecd service as a different user, however, my testing
last week of a full backup and recover of an R2 server (in a 2003 domain
I should add) gave me the same error using a Domain account from the NW
side - I ended up just using the R2 server's local administrator account
in the NW client config instead, and that took care of it, was able to
do a full backup and recover etc - (We do not change service account
users unless we have to - it's come back to haunt us too many times, but
that's just us).

Thanks - hth,

jamie

Really. In the client config, did you use just "administrator" and the
local machine administrator password? Or did you need to do "machine
name\administrator", and then the local password? At the moment, I am
using a domain account that is a domain admin, in the "Remote Access"
section of the client config.

(this would be a Win2008 R2 server in a Win2003 domain, as well)

I can sympathize with changing service accounts, and their passwords -
just had to do the same thing myself.

If I was to change the service account, I presume I would need to use a
domain account that was set as local administrator?

Thanks
