bootstrap to aftd device

Post bootstrap to aftd device
I need to move our Networker server to a new server. Up to now, we've
been using tape exclusively, but we're moving to a new environment where
we will be primarily using aftd. My plan is to mount the NFS share
(actually Data Domain) to the backup server and create the aftd device
directly on the share. We will still have tape for archive purposes

Couple of questions on this:

- Any reason the bootstrap should not go on aftd? I'm planning
to make a copy both on disk and tape every night

- If the bootstrap can go onto aftd, I was considering this
process for moving the server. Would it work?:

1. Mount the NFS share to the current backup server

2. Create an aftd device on the share, label it, and back up the
bootstrap and all indexes to it

3. Unmount the device and unmount the NFS share

4. Mount the NFS share to the new backup server

5. Create a new aftd device on the new backup server on that
share, but do not label it

6. Run mmrecov, nsrck -L7, etc to do the recovery

Thanks

Hi,
This should work. I've done this in the past with the regular 'file type
device' without issue.

Another possibility is to mount a data domain partition on the original
server and copy /nsr onto the data domain file system. Then, mount the data
domain file system on the new server and copy the /nsr data to the new
location and start NetWorker.

Sorry for the late response on this. This would really work? What about
all the licenses; we'd still need to refresh the license codes with EMC
if we do this, correct?

We've been testing recovery of our Networker server at a remote site using this method and it has worked perfectly. The best part is version 7.6 gives you 15 days to get the licenses in order.
We backup all bootstrap and indexes to an AFTD on a Data Domain appliance which replicates to our remote site.
Our procedure at the remote site is to install Networker on a server with Java installed (for NMC) and running DNS.
Then add the AFTD for the Data Domain at the remote site.
Then we run MMRECOV using the SSID for the latest bootstrap (we have a daily bootstrap report in email and copied to Iron Mountain cusotmer website).
Finally, we have a script to clean up old devices.
