Cannot connect to NetWorker server from any client
Author Message
Post Cannot connect to NetWorker server from any client
Hi all,

I cannot connect any client, except the one on the local machine, to my
NetWorker server running on a Windows XP machine. I was able to easily
connect earlier though. Cannot figure out what went wrong.

The error I get on any client when trying to connect to this server is
"Server <server_name>: Remote System Error".

When I run "rpcinfo -s <server_name>" from a windows client (different from
the server machine), I get the error "rpcinfo: can't contact lgtomapper:
Remote system error - Connection timed out" and "rpcinfo: can't contact
portmapper: Remote system error - Connection timed out". Does anyone know
what could be the problem. I have verified that NetWorker services like
"Backup and Recover Server" and "NetWorker Remote Exec Service" are running
on the server machine.

Regards,
Piyush

Hi Kumar,

Are you running XP SP2 with the firewall turned on, or some other
firewalling software ?

This sounds like either a firewall issue or a DNS problem.
Check with the network administrator to be sure a firewall
is not posing a barrier and make sure reverse DNS works on
the clients and server.
