Change in nsrmm behavior in 7.6.2

Post Change in nsrmm behavior in 7.6.2
I run a script every month that collects the ssids of all savesets for
the EOM run, and I then feed that to

nsrmm -e "85 months" -w"84 months" -S <ssid>

So that I get a 7 year browse and retention for those EOM savesets. Since
upgrading to 7.6.2, however, now the script pauses each time, with:

Are you sure you want to change the browse policy expiration to `Fri Aug
10 12:04:42 2018' and the retention policy expiration to `Mon Sep 10
12:04:42
2018' for this saveset? (yes/no) [no]

It never did that before. Sad I looked for an option for nsrmm to just
assume yes, so it could back to unattended running and marking the change
in browse/expire time, but there doesn't seem to be such an option. So I
guess I have to re-write that script to pipe in an answer to that question
before issuing the "nsrmm".

Am I the only one who noticed, or am experiencing, this?

Yes, this is a new behavior.

But the new option [-y] is in fact documented in the NW 7.6.2 manpages.

It is not documented in the "EMC Networker Release 7.6 Service Pack 1
Documentation Portfolio" PDF that I use as a reference, since I use
Windows, and there are no manpages on a Windows platform. But I do see it
in the "usage" list if I type "nsrmm --help". No explanations for any
option, but this one should be self-explanatory.

I will put the "-y" in the command, thanks.

The "-y" option to nsrmm has been there for years. IIRC it was the
default for some actions such as making a volume [not]recyclable etc. If
there has been a change, it must be that certain actions are now needing
confirmation when they didn't before.

As (relatively) recently as 7.5.1, it was not the default, at least:

# nsrmm -o readonly 001840
Mark sdlt320 tape 001840 as readonly? n

Then again, it might vary depending on the operation. However, I've long
been in the habit of typing 'nsrmm -yo <whatever> ... ' Smile

Michael,

you are correct - there are no manpages for Windows. I was actually refering to the Command Line References which are valid for all OS.

Unfortunately, EMC always introduces a lot of 'undocumented' with each release. I think at changes which are not listed in the Release Notes which one should read before installation. Consequently, you will not become aware of them unless you encounter a difference. I guess, this also loads NW support with a lot of extra work as they most likely will respond with a 'known issue'.

Exactly. Confirmation was not needed before, for option -e and -w (I use
them together; don't know if each one individually requires confirmation,
or only the combination.

The Document you need to get is the 'Command Reference Guide' for your

That document is included in the "EMC Networker Release 7.6 Service Pack 1

Documentation Portfolio" PDF . When you open the portfolio PDF, one of the
options you get is to open the Command Reference. The portfolio is a
combination of all the documentation in PDF format, in one file.

You can download it and see for yourself. I used to download all the
separate PDFs - Command Reference, Admin Guide, etc. But this is one PDF,
with all those (and more) in one file.

specific release level of Networker. It's available from
PowerLink.emc.com and shows the complete syntax/options for ALL commands
as well as some explanations of some Networker terminology... It's the
'Bible' of all Networker commands.
