Cloning task completion report

Post Cloning task completion report
Hi All

I have a generic question regarding the cloning feature.

As you know since a version that I can't recall, a new cloning resource type
has been added to schedule clone activities.

This clone task have a very basic schedule but at least can be used as an
alternative to both scripting and automatic cloning (group cloning).

My question is related to notifications. I haven't found any notification
that can be used to report on the cloning status. And the worst is that if a
clone task fails the GUI does not give any details except the list of the
save sets that have failed.

The jobquery can be used to check what nsrclone command has been triggered
and running it from the shell prompt can give you more details on the
failure causes.

Do you guys use or have used the scheduled cloning feature and did you find
a way to get notified or get sort of completion report of the cloning.

Of course we can use the NMC report or write some complex script to get it
done but I am searching for some other ways.

Thanks for any input.

Regards

You can get more details by checking the nsrtask.raw log file. But i agree, there should be notifications as well.

We are using our own specific information system:
- every 30 mins, a job runs which extracts the last 30mins events from the daemon.raw file
- this will be checked for certain trigger word(s)
- if so, it will take some action (email or sms or similar)

We use that to inform us if DB log backups (key backups) have failed.
Of course you could also check the nsrtask.raw file with this general procedure.

One way you might look at getting this is scripting the reports from NMC. Check out the gstclreport utility, if the data you need is in the NMC reports and you just want an automated way to get at it, you may be able to use it as part of an extremely simple script.

I'm not sure which version of NW this utility crept in on, but between it and the new reports in 7.6, I can get about 97% of the base NW info I want to report on without resorting to a script with serious stitching and parsing ...
