Drives disable when cloning

Post Drives disable when cloning
Hi everyone,

I have a strange case since I change my SDLT220 for SDLT320 on my
solaris2.8 sever networker 6.1.4. The drives work well for backup but each
week on sunday when I clone (nsrclone script), I've got READING I/O error
and sometime 3 of 4 drives became disable (and it is random). If I retry
the missing saveset, on monday, the clone work OK!

Have you already seen that !!!

This is my config line in st.conf
tape-config-list=
"QUANTUM SDLT320", "SDLT320", "SDLT2";
SDLT2 = 1,0x38,0,0x19639,4,0x92,0x93,0x90,0x91,3;

Hi H,

Always happend in =AB reading =BB on all drives in random. it doesn't look
like it was loding/eject. the 4 drives are on SAN on 2 HBA (2drv/HBA).
This is what I got from system log(/var/adm/messages) last sunday:

Which drives get disabled? Those used for reading or writing the clone?
Do those drives same same controller? Does the error comes during the
clone operation or during the load and label verification? Do you see
anything in system logs (including switches)?

Cheers,
H

hardware error on reading. It would appear to be a bad drive or a bad
tape. I don't know of any configuration errors that could cause that.

I'll take a guess that perhpas its:

a.) Bad batch of tapes (you would see write errors also; puzzling).
b.) Cable/SAN problem; perhaps during cloning the read speed of the drives
causing the problem to become apparent.
