How to change mode of tape to read only after unload?
Author Message
Post How to change mode of tape to read only after unload?
I am running NetWorker 7.5.2 and want to ensure that a tape isn't written to if left in the library overnight. I can't unload the tapes as there aren't enough slots to hold both backups over the weekend. Maybe a script to change the unloaded tape from append to read only?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mark the tape volume as readonly. Either in NMC, or

nsrmm -y -o readonly <tape volume label>

i.e.

nsrmm -y -o readonly Weekend.Tape.001

See the man page, or the Command Reference Guide, for details.

Can this be done in a script as it unloads the tape?

In regard to: [Networker] How to change mode of tape to read only after...:

Can this be done in a script as it unloads the tape?

nsrmm -o readonly volumename

Note that readonly only prevents NetWorker from appending data to the
volume; the volume will still follow normal retention rules and will
eventually become recycleable, at which point NetWorker may choose to
relabel it, thereby making it appendable again.

And that is exactly what I would want to happen. I just need the tapes status changed upon ejection. I was hoping to be able to do that automaticly. I wrote a batch file as indicated above and it works great.

Maybe what I need is a way to scrape what the volume label is for today's tapes and then insert that data into the above command. If I can do that then I can just schedule the script to run later in the day.
