Thanks

Please clarify. What's exactly does you want to monitor?

-----------------

This is not possible. If you grant the privilege 'Monitor NetWorker' there is no finer granularity.

In NetWorker Administration, not in NMC
- Create a new User Group (Monitoring)
- Add the appropriate user(s)
- Remove the privileges 'Backup Local Data' and 'Recover Local Data'

I want to create a user which can only monitor backups and restores because:
- I want each of our systems team to monitor their own backups. If there are any problems, they should inform me and we will look in to it
- They should be able to see the restore progress, when initiating Exchange or oracle recoveries

As i mentioned - you can not assign rights to a user but only to a user group.
My concept showed you the way how to do it.

Thanks,

The following is created:

type: NSR usergroup;
name: monitor;
comment: To Monitor Backups Only;
users: "user=test,host=legato02";
privileges: Monitor NetWorker;

What next?

Michael Jackson: "This is it!" ... as far NetWorker is concerned.

Now in NMC Setup create the 'User Name' 'test' and assign the Role 'Console User'.

Then let him login.

Nope, I can still assign clients to other groups using the test user.

I just verified that your are obviously right.

Obviously once again one issue which slipped through QA.

Mack,

I hate to state the obvious here, but are you using DPA with reporting?
They would not have to monitor anything, when the job is completed or at
the anticipated completion time you run your completion report and an
email is sent with the results of same to both You and your client.

Option #2, less pretty but also works, completion email sent via
networker. This will tell you the result although not the same level of
detail.

Option #3, setup a Cron tab job script that will check the details of
your backup jobs set to run at a certain time, using a loop of mminfo
scripts.

Food for thought, hopefully everyone has a great Thanksgiving holiday in
the USA and a great weekend for the world!

I digged a bit into that issue and with various versions/configurations it seems to work .. at least sometimes.

I am pretty confident that it will work when you will remove the backup & recover right from the default user group.

@Eddie Albert:
Thanks for the Reply:
- No we are not using the DPA reporting module
- The email optional as you mentioned doesn't look pretty, frankly even i never look at them. And doesn't resolve the recovery status issue
- Honestly, I just started working on the networker command line, but even so, I don't want to send message to end users

@bingo:
Thanks for digging into the issue Smile
which is the "Default user group"?

-------------------------------------------------------

NW creates the 2 User Groups Administrators & Users by default.

BTW - Be careful that you do not overrule the privileges for the Users group with privileges for the Administrators group.
For instance, readonly@* with only the Monitoring privilege in the Uses group will be granted a NW admin when you add the entry *@* in the Administrators group.

Nope didn't work. user can still change groups
Changed the user group privileges to Monitor NetWorker

type: NSR usergroup;
name: Users;
comment: \
Members of this group can backup to and recover from NetWorker;
users: microsoft@*;
privileges: Monitor NetWorker;

Open a powerlink ticket with EMC and ask one of those WysDym (DPA) Gurus
they are incredible!
