Networker backup from iSCSI device with MPIO - SLOW!

Post Networker backup from iSCSI device with MPIO - SLOW!
Hi all,

I am new to the forum so will start by saying hi!

We are having issues with EMC Networker after changing from our SAN to an iSCSI based solution using Microsoft MPIO.

It seems that the Networker backup client cannot pull data on a single save stream at more than 30MB/Sec.

If we break the drive up into folders and run parrellelism to enbale multiple save streams it creates seperate streams of 30Mb/Sec or so which is a workaround but not ideal.

Does anyone have any experience of this or know of any tweaks/switches we can add to the save job to allow us to backup the drive without splitting. EMC are being there usual unhelpful selves and saying it is a professional services/implementation request rather than a problem with the networker client!

The box itself is a Nimble Storage array that can can reach data read speeds sequentialy of 460Mb/Sec using 4 paths with 'least queue' depth' set for MPIO.

Thanks in advance!

Back tuning is fun! Repeat that about 1000 times before you go any further

That said MPIO needs multiple streams to get any benefit of performance. So you should be multistreaming your backups and breaking up the save sets as needed so that more streams can be read, and MPIO is leveraged.

Side note, I know Nimble can show some great benchmarks in a small POC.. But in actual performance stats, you really can't trust them, and you must use common testing methods to find the right config that works for you. Heck most of those guys are ex-DataDomain which have exposure to Networker.
