Post Not Enough Licenses
Hey all;

We are running NW 7.1.2 on a Win2003 Server with an L700e Jukebox
attached, all via fiber. Backups have been working fine for the past
month, then out of nowhere, we began receiving the following messages in
the daemon.log:

-----
nsrd: server info: Unable to grant SERVER (UNIVERSAL) CLIENT license to
client blablah: Too many clients. Maximum is 55
-----

I'm just wondering if anyone's ever seen anything like this and if there
is a fix for it.

Cheers,

I had this too. What legato had me do is document all my licenses
(client's only). Delete and recreate them. It fixed it and I have not
had this occur again.

Carter,

Could you possibly have a client license that you installed but did
not complete
authorization for?

I had this problem once, when I clearly had some spare licenses - I just
bounced the server and it cleared up. I'm on solaris, though, not Win2k

Is it possible that one of your licenses expired? you can run nsrlic to see
how many you're using (um, on solaris anyway -probably it's also available
on windows). If you just deployed a month ago, it may be that one of your
licenses didn't get authorized properly. Licensing is a 2 step process -
first you put in the enabler code and then legato sends you the auth code.
Which you probably already know but I figured it was worth a mention!

We are going through this right now. We found legato solution id
legato68096 which indicates you should also cleanup the /nsr/index
directory of all old servers you are no longer backing up. If
re-entering the licenses does not work you may want to perform this
clean up as well.

FYI,
Jon

Thank you to all who responded to this message. We tried applying for a
new Host ID Transfer license and deleting / re-entering all client pack
registration. This also involved stopping / restarting the NW services,
as well as deleting the contents of the tmp directory between tries.
This appeared to resolve the issue immediately, however, 2hrs later, the
issue returned. We do have a case open with Legato and we're still
working on it.

Thanks again!

Post Not Enough Licenses
We have had similar issues in our 7.12 environment. After contacting
Legato, we worked through a few things, and eventually found that we were
having some scavenging issues in DNS. What was occurring is that reverse
lookup records were not being scavenged for some reason, so we could do ping
-a's on an address and receive any number of responses. Legato thought this
caused extra licenses to be eaten, and caused the problem.

We got the problem cleaned up, and that seemed to help quite a bit, however,
it just started happening again over the weekend. I think we'll try the
same thing with deleting and re-adding the licenses and see if that helps.

Hope my comments help you out, and have a happy holidays!
