Problem Moving Networker indexes onto NFS
Author Message
Post Problem Moving Networker indexes onto NFS
I am trying to move Networker indexes onto a different file system (NFS mounted). But it does not work.
I've performed the following steps:
1. stopped nsr
2. copied indexes to a new FS
3. created a link: ln -s /filer/nsr_indexes /nsr/index
4. restarted Networker

It does not complain, but cannot pass index checking stage.
Any ideas?

Regards,

Glen

Post Problem Moving Networker indexes onto NFS
Hi Glen,

I seem to remember reading somewhere that /nsr/index cannot be a
symbolic link under newer versions of NetWorker. I think you'll find
this in the release notes.

Certainly I recall customers who put their indexes on NFS mountpoints
under v5.x finding that they were unable to do any form of an index
recovery and given the only indexes that couldn't recover were NFS
mounted it did seem to point at problems there. Therefore even if you
say, actually mount the NFS index region at /nsr/index I'd suspect
you'll have problems making it work and would strongly advise that you
test a complete index backup/recovery before trusting it - and you'd
probably want to check with Legato as to whether they'd support it, as
I suspect that they won't.

Cheers,

-Preston.
