Backup Central

Hello,

I suppose all of you are aware of that, but I was not: We restored the
SYSTEM STATE on a Windows 2000 Server after a unsuccessfull setup of Oracle
9i. With the restore we would like to get rid of the registry keys which
got inserted during the 9i installation. But - after the restore the keys
are still there.
We learned from our support partner that this works as expected and that we
should do a Disaster Recovery to get a clean system again.
In my opinion this restricts the usefullness of a registry backup.
How do you deal with that? Any workarounds?

Well, it works like a single recover is doing : when you recover a full
backup of a saveset, it overwrites (or not depending of options you
specified) existing files or directories but it does not erase files
created in the meantime.
If you want it to be "clean", you reformat the volume before recovering,
doing a Disaster recovery of your filesystem/volume.

Same story applies for registry, excepted that reformatting is recreating
a new one during DR and recovering the one from your backup.
Registry being always opened, recover is not an overwrite but a kind of
"merge" with existing keys.
