Post buy enabler 7.4 --> 7.6?
Hello,

We are running Sun StorageTek Enterprise Backup 7.4
on a Solaris 10 machine.

We would like to move from the Solaris machine to a Linux machine and
at the same time we would like to upgrade the backup server software
to 7.6.

Do we need to "buy" any enablers for backup server or for any other paks
that we are using? We have Autochanger Modules and ClientPak for PC
Desktops/Macintosh/Linux and a few Client connections Pak.

I would really appreciate your help,

Thanks in advance,

anu

Anu,

More than likely, you will need to purchase new NetWorker licenses. I suggest you contact EMC or an EMC reseller to discuss your licensing needs. Your university's purchasing department might be able to put you in touch with the right people at EMC or a reseller.

We made the move from EBS 7.4 to 7.6 a couple of years ago, and we did need to contact then Sun for new enablers, but they did not charge us anything for it. I'm not sure if you'll get the same result making the same request now that Oracle took over, but it would be worth the effort.

Keep in mind, however, that Oracle is getting out fo the business of reselling NetWorker, so any new licenses will have to be purchased directly through EMC.

Hi Anu,

you need to request a host transfer for all the enablers, including the base
enabler, to get the new auth codes.

If you have a support contract, then your support provider should do that for
you. Check with them all licensing options.

The base enabler on solaris SPARC is 4-5 times more expensive than a
linux/windows or solaris x64 enabler. I assume the upgrade enabler should be
cheaper on linux.

The other question is whether you will keep the old server for recoveries only
or if you are planing to migrate the media db. In principle a cross-platform
migration is not supported but it can be done....
