Two types of backups for clients
Author Message
Post Two types of backups for clients
I have recently implemented Legato 7.1.2 on 5 servers in our environment.
I am using the Default Schedule and Pool. Everything seems to be working
fine, and I am getting my Full and Incremental backups.

Now, I want to introduce a second backup that will perform a Full backup
on the 1st of the month and write to a separate tape that will then be
removed from the tape Library and retained as a permanent Monthly tape.

What is the best approach to setting up this second backup type? It is
best to just set up another set of clients assigned to another group with
a different Schedule and Pool? Or is there some feature (Cloning,
Archiving) that would be better?

I want to keep it simple.

Thanks,
Diane

Set up a new group for the client in question, add the client to
that group and set its schedule for a monthly full backup. If your
NetWorker server has more than one tape drive, you can clone the
full backup's savesets to another tape for off-site storage.

If I set up the separate group for monthly full, how do I make it so that it
doesn't append to the media pool? I want to force it to go to a new tape so
that the monthly backup is the only save set on the tape.

We do have a second drive in the Library; Would I be able to automate the
cloning of only the Full Backup's save set? And how do I tell it which full
save set to use?

Set up a new group for the client in question, add the client to that group
and set its schedule for a monthly full backup. If your NetWorker server has

another tape for off-site storage.

You can accomplish this by creating a new tape pool and then assigning the
new group to that pool.

You would need to create a second new tape pool that can accept clone
data. You can then either script your cloning by using mminfo to determine
which savesets to clone, or you can go into the new group (with view
details enabled) and just click on the clone button. Most people script
this out because if yields greater flexibility.

See the man pages or printed documentation for the nsrclone and mminfo
commands.
