Upgrade to 7.1.2 or 7.2?
Author Message
Post Upgrade to 7.1.2 or 7.2?
We are planning on upgrading to 7 from 6.1.4. While doing some =
investigation today I noticed that there are docs for 7.2 but no =
binaries for 7.2 at www.legato.com. =20

Should we upgrade to 7.1.2 or wait for the 7.2 binaries? How soon are =
7.2 binaries likely to be available?

Our Networker server is running Solaris 8.

I'm also working on a project to upgrade the Networker server box and
version from v6.1.4 to the current version. I planned to upgrade to
v7.1.2 instead of the latest v7.2 because the later version is already
used, disected, debugged and fixed by our Networker colleagues and most
likely very stable and full of support.
If I'm right, the latest version of 7.2 was just released a few days
ago, if I will install it, it will be installed on a 'test environment'
for now.

Personally I prefer patched versions. 7.1 and 7.2 are new releases, while
7.1.1 and 7.1.2 are patched versions. Would see the first number as a major
release while the second as a minor release and the third number is a patch.

Even patches can break things though, but new releases have a better chance.

If you are not in a rush though you may want to watch comments here to see
what other experiences are with 7.2. It is what I do, aside from testing.

They are available, but not from the public page. There you can find only
jumbo patch releases. Since you will need to obtain update enabler, Legato
should also give you a link to 7.2 then (or reseller or whoever is providing
you the support).

Cheers,
H
