Variant of Networker on Secondary network (storage node only
Author Message
Post Variant of Networker on Secondary network (storage node only
The earlier thread got me curious, as I have a similar issue which was
getting ready to post about:

-----

Server (NW), Storage node (stn), and AlphaStor server (AS) - Networker
7.1.2 (Sun EBS actually), on Sun Solaris 8.

NW and AS have one network port each, on our production net.

stn has three network ports: hme0 on the production net, and ge0/1
on a couple of private networks that this storage node's clients use.
This system shares a tape library with NW (with different media,
hence the AlphaStor server).

The clients that stn is intending to backup also have one hme port on
production and two private ge nets.

-----

Currently, all backups work as intended (clients for stn talk to stn),
but only over the hme port and backup is topped at 11 Meg/sec (on
LTO-2 drives). I know this can go faster as there are local backups
as well for the storage node.

I want to force the backup to have the clients use the private ge
nets (don't care which one). The NW and AS servers do not and will
not be able to see the client's private nets due to security reasons
(they're not our systems, even the storage node).

Documentation, as well as the earlier list threads, are a bit fuzzy at
this point. Setting the server network port on the client definition
appears to set for talking to the server only, not a storage node, If
reading this correctly. So I appear to be stuck.

Suggestions? Clarifications?

Much Appreciated,

Hello,

The ge network interfaceshave network names that need to be added to the alias list for the SN
client, then you can use the proper storage node alias as SN for all the clients you want to back
up using the gb network.

Regards.
