Hi All,

Can Any one please address this issue.

We got Netowrker server on Solaris 5.10 Generic_144488-06 sun4v sparc SUNW,T5140. after upgrading to 7.6.2.2, the win 2003 vss backups hang but when run mminfo that saveset is actually completed. these are all occuring on 'savepnpc' enabled hosts that are on 7.6.2.2. bother server and clients are on same version.

this is intermittent it is not just one client in particular, its different client every day.

Please fire off any ideas you got in troubleshooting this issue.

I have observed a lot of various issues with NW running on our W2K3 machines. My personal feeling is that these clients are just running out of resources, especially RAM. This was obvious as a lot of our W2K3 servers were older models. But it will already often help if you reduce the client parallelism from 4 to 2.

Any time I run into issues on Win 2003 servers with VSS, I always check to see if the latest version of the VSS rollup patch has been installed. You could consider it sort of a mini-service pack just for VSS. MS will also occasionally update the rollup with additional fixes rather than issue a new, separate VSS patch, so even if the clients in question have it, there may be a newer release out.

If its the VSS not being updated from the client side, then why would these backups run successfully one day and the other day its hung even after a succesfull backup showing as ACTIVE?

Any ideas please?

When I ran into this problem I read something about registry errors, in
our case it was attached printers (and the data they put in the
registry) being the issue. There is a Microsoft update that covers this
registry problem and vss backups... Have your SysAdmin thoroughly go
through the available updates vs current build and make the corrections.

We applied the fix to the server and the backups started working
immediately and reliably.

Hi Any one,

The upgrade of our networker server did not fix our issues. the issues are now occurringon both windows 2008 and windows 2003 clients.

Any suggestions or steps to troubleshooting?
