WOW ! - moving a NetWorker server from UNIX to Windows?
Author Message
Post WOW ! - moving a NetWorker server from UNIX to Windows?
Simple question: Can one move from a UNIX(Solaris) NetWorker Server over to Windows(Win2k or Win2k3) ?

Is there an official document for doing this?
Has anyone done it ?

I've replaced hardware and installed the same OS type and version before without problems.
But I've never moved OS's.
What about the indexes. I have them spread across 4 filesystems including the default one relative to the installation tree. That I can deal with manually if necessary.
I believe I have ~25GB of index (350 clients and retention of 3Months and Browse of 2 months).

thanks - John

No it's not supported :-)

Yep.

It's depend about what is the Unix OS
The major trouble ( I think ) is that the index and media are stored
with major Unix system in Big Indian, and in Little Indian
on Windows.
But the bootstrap doesn't have this trouble ...

1 So first, you have to backup all your index and bootstrap
( savegrp -O -l full )

2. Do a disaster recovery on a Linux Box ( mmrecov )
and restore all the index.
3. Export the disk via samba
3. Copy the exported data from the linux box to Windows.

You have to do a disaster recovery on the Linux
because Files System are compatible between Unix
and Linux, and Linux are on Pcbox with little indian
processor.

It's the more simple way i've found Smile
I really hope that you are a NetWorker Specialist ...

John

I've done this with a 6.1.4 version and not with a 7.x
But I think that it's exactly the same ...

Thierry.
